Welcome to Service Mutts

At 1:44am on August 15th of 2022 I sat in my college dorm eating a celebratory pink flower shaped cookie. Why? Because I just started Service Mutts LLC.

When you start a business everyone thinks it’s going to be this beautiful ribbon cutting ceremony, but that’s not the reality. I learned this lesson at 20 years old as a senior in college, working part-time at a Dunkin to make ends meet. I had just survived the most mentally draining summer of my life where I had lost everything and nearly my life as well. When I laid their sick and alone there was only one set of eyes looking back at me telling me that I was going to make it…Hazel.

She never once left my side as I slipped in and out of consciousness for three days . Every time I’d awaken she’d lick my face and thump her tail, begging me to just get up and be okay. That was when it all finally made sense to me. They say that sometimes you have to lose everything to figure out who you are and I could not agree more. When I got better and out of that bed I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I want to train reliable service dogs that when you truly need them can be counted on. Not just the staged or edited videos you see online. Dogs that could not just work in any condition, but dogs that could do their job when they least expect to have to.

Today will be a year ago that I started Service Mutts LLC. Nothing about my passion has changed expect that I want to do even more. I want to help all dogs from all walks of life. I want to help restore relationships within households where there is just so much miscommunication between dogs and their owners. We as a species have evolved so quickly in just the last 30 years and our dogs have struggled to do so at the same speed. We expect to take these animals and throw them into busy cities and for them to just “get it”, but this is unrealistic. Dogs were not bred to sit on couches in apartments and watch TV all day. They were bred to do things and when their needs are not met we cannot blame them for acting out. As a dog trainer it’s my job to diagnosis the problem and develop a plan that works for both my client and their dog. I understand that life gets in the way, believe me I do, which is why I make realistic plans for my clients that they can follow.

I am so lucky to get to sit here and tell you all that I have my dream job. I get to do what I love everyday and that is the best feeling in the world. I couldn’t do it without all the people who have supported me up until this point. Thank you all and welcome to a new year of Service Mutts LLC.
